Chef Giovanna Huyke returns to Washington DC with Sobremesa

Renowned Puerto Rican Chef Giovanna Huyke returns to the nation’s capital as Co-Owner and Executive Chef of Sobremesa, a farm-fresh and home-made approach to dining that is affordable and accessible to all. Sobremesa is scheduled to open its doors later this year in downtown Washington, DC.

“I am on a mission to change the way people eat when they eat out. Sobremesa’s kitchen will have no geographical boundaries. The menu will be ever changing, based on the freshest local ingredients we get on a daily basis. I will serve my favorite dishes, collected during 30 years of cooking around the world,” said Chef Gio.

Above all, Chef Gio wants her new restaurant to have an ‘at home’ look and feel for its guests, where eating well doesn’t break the bank or seem stuffy. To foster a sense of community, even before it’s fully operational, Chef Gio has partnered with crowdfunding platform Indiegogo to give future patrons an active role in the success of Sobremesa.

"Indiegogo is a valuable tool for entrepreneurs to make their dreams come true. I am excited to have a platform where friends - old and new - and future patrons can have a stake in the process of putting together the resources needed to help bring to life the Sobremesa culinary experience," added Chef Gio.

In July 2014, Chef Gio was named one of five “Queens of the Kitchen” in Washington, DC by Modern Luxury DC’s 2014 Restaurant Edition. She was the only Latina listed in the magazine’s ranking of finest culinary experiences in the nation’s capital. Over the last 30 years, Chef Gio has taken her Puerto Rican-inspired cuisine to various cities in the United States as well as Spain, Japan, Costa Rica, Colombia, and Greece.
